Interpreters working for any language services provider must have agreed to abide by a relevant code of ethics, similar to the NZSTI (New Zealand Society of Translators & Interpreters) Code of Ethics, covering at least the following aspects of interpreting:
Confidentiality
Impartiality
Accuracy
Professional conduct
Competence
Clarity of role boundaries
Professional development.
The code of ethics must be taught as part of the introductory training, and become part of subsequent professional development. A code of conduct, similar to the NZSTI Code of Conduct (supporting the code of ethics) must form part of interpreters' practice.
